Deathbed guilt

Sam was on his deathbed. Tom, was at his side holding his father’s clammy hands. Sam’s pale lips moved.
"Tom," he whispered.
"Hush," said Tom, "don't talk."
"I have to talk, “said Sam, “I must apologise for being a lousy father."
"There’s no need for that," said Tom. "It's all right. Everything's all right."
